Pyrite, also called iron pyrite or fool’s gold, a naturally occurring iron disulfide mineral. The name comes from the Greek word pyr, “fire,” because pyrite emits sparks when struck by metal. Pyrite is called fool’s gold; to the novice, its color is deceptively similar to that of a gold nugget. This sphere weighs in at 12 ounces. It makes a great paperweight or a tabletop conversation starter. As the material is a natural mineral, your sphere may appear slightly different than the photos (different pitting).
