Macabre Monday – Metal Winged Skull sculpture
by Mercy Macabre on Apr.29, 2019, under Products
Happy Macabre Monday ghasts and ghouls.
Today we delve into the crypt to bring you a unique sculpture
This is an all metal skull with a black patina. The skull was sculpted to look anatomically accurate and then wings were added to let it take flight.
This work of art is entirely hand made from reclaimed metal by an artist in Utah. Since it is a handmade item there may be a slight variation from the picture in each version he makes but every sculpture is beautiful. The detail on the skull is amazing
The wings are able to be repositioned slightly to give the appearance you wish.
A sturdy metal loop at the back of skull allows you to hang it from the ceiling or any other location and let it fly.
The skull itself measures approximately 5″ wide x 5″ high x 8″ long.
The wings are approximately 11″ long.
Macabre Mercantile vs the Valley of FIRE
by Mercy Macabre on Apr.24, 2019, under News
Howdy from Nevada ghasts and ghouls. The Macabre Mercantile staff went on a road trip just north of Las Vegas to the Valley of Fire state park.
This is a beautiful drive through sandstone mountains and rolling hills. It’s amazingly colorful and the shapes carved by the wind are breathtaking.
We took several side routes through the park to see all the cool sights. We didn’t get pictures of Fire Canyon because it was hard to stop along the road there but OMG that side road is worth it if you’re ever in the VofF. Fire Canyon has a line of dark red mountains running down the center and they are jagged and almost look like flames being fanned by the wind.
We took in lots of sandstone, some plants and of course our hell hound Kali managed to get into a picture.
After a lunch break, we headed into Lake Mead recreational area for a leisurely drive home instead of going back to the highway and while there we saw something intriguing…. symmetrical rock stacking in the desert. No HUMAN could have created such perfect stacks just off the road – nope, no way. It HAD to be aliens!
One funny side note, one of the pictures shows a cactus with pink flowers.
Right after we got home we noticed that the very similar cactus in our cactus garden had finally put out yellow flowers. Synchronicity FTW!
Here’s a few pics, click on them to see the larger version for detail. If you ever get a chance to go, please do so, it’s worth it. I know we intend to return.
Macabre Monday – Diablo Nicho

Happy Macabre Monday ghasts and ghouls.
Today we’ll be taking a trip south of the border…. no, not to the pits of hell, regardless of the picture – we’re talking Mexico.
Today’s find is a tin shadow box with a sexy little devil.
The devil is a fired clay statue and he is surrounded by hand-painted flames. This is a whimsical piece of folk art and as the sign says, he’s dead sexy.
Nicho art originated as a popular adaptation of the Roman Catholic retablo tradition of painting patron saints on wood or tin. Unlike the large, flat panels of retablo, nichos are small and built in shadow box style
This colorful item will make a statement on your wall or tabletop. It has a hook to allow it to be hung and welded feet which will let it stand upright.
Every part of this beautiful piece is hand-made in a small pueblo in Mexico and it is an authentic Day of the Dead nicho.
The nicho measures approx. 5″ x 6″.
Macabre Monday – Unicorn Skull

#macabremonday #skulls
Happy Macabre Monday ghasts and ghouls.
Today we’re looking at skulls because every home needs a few skulls – am I right?
We sent out mighty hunters in search of unique skulls and they brought us back a Unicorn!
Unfortunately, it was the Last Unicorn … just kidding, there’s still some left in the herd for us to cull.
You won’t believe this isn’t real bone. The skull was sculpted based upon a real horse skull (but smaller) and then textured and painted until it looked exactly like a real skull.
THEN the magic happened, a twisting bone horn was sculpted and added to the top of the skull and -poof- it’s a unicorn.
This magical unicorn skull has been hand painted for a naturalistic bone finish.
Made of cold cast resin with powder additives to give it the feel of actual bone. Hand-painted for naturalistic detail. Because each piece is hand finished, there may be minor differences in appearance from the picture.
The horn is detachable and screws firmly into the skull for display.
It’s large enough to make a statement on a shelf or mantel. The statue measures 11″ tall, 9″ long and 5″ wide approximately.
